Skip the time-consuming cleaning process with new chains! The new Rex Transformer Block uses advanced chemistry to transform the factory grease of a new chain into a solid substance that does not hinder wax adhesion. Add a block for each chain. Developed in a joint R&D program with Helsinki University.
No degreasing. No harsh solvents. No performance compromise.
Rex Transformer Block lets you hot wax a factory-new bicycle chain without first removing the factory grease. Place one Transformer Block into the wax pot together with Rex hot wax and a new chain, heat, agitate, and let the chemistry do the work.
Transformer Block does not simply hide the factory grease under a layer of wax. It transforms it. In hot wax, the block converts the factory grease into a wax-compatible structure that no longer acts as an oily barrier between the chain and the wax.
The result is a clean, fast, hot-waxed chain — without the traditional solvent cleaning process.
Factory grease is useful in the package. It protects the chain during storage and transport. In a wax pot, however, the same grease becomes a problem.
If a new chain is hot waxed directly over factory grease, the wax cannot properly bond to the inner surfaces of the chain. The chain may look waxed, but the lubrication does not last as it should.
Transformer Block was developed to solve exactly this problem. Instead of washing the factory grease away, it changes how the grease behaves inside the molten wax.
In Rex single-application longevity testing, a chain waxed directly over factory grease wore quickly. A competing factory-grease treatment improved the result clearly. Rex Transformer Block went further: it produced the longest-lasting result in the test set, even outperforming the carefully solvent-cleaned reference chain.
This is the key difference. Transformer Block is not a compromise for riders who want to avoid degreasing. It is a high-performance way to start hot waxing a new chain.
Transformer Block uses in-situ oleogelation to immobilize the oil phase of factory grease into a more solid, wax-compatible structure. The formulation is developed together with Helsinki University.
In practical terms, the factory grease stops behaving like an oily contaminant. The hot wax can then penetrate and remain where lubrication matters most: inside the pins, rollers, and inner plates of the chain.
This makes it possible to hot wax a new chain without the most time-consuming and messy part of the process: solvent degreasing.
Use one Rex Transformer Block for each factory-new chain.
Place Rex hot wax, one Transformer Block, and one factory-new chain in the Rex Pro Wax Heater. Heat the wax to 125 °C using Boost mode. Once the wax has reached temperature, agitate the chain thoroughly in the wax and leave it submerged for approximately 20 minutes, agitating occasionally.
Then turn Boost off and allow the wax to cool to 75 °C. Agitate the chain once more, lift it from the wax, and let the excess wax drip back into the pot. Allow the chain to cool completely, then flex the links by hand before installation.
The same wax batch can be used later for re-waxing chains.
Transformer Block is designed to be used together with Rex hot wax and the Rex Pro Wax Heater. The heater’s Boost mode raises the wax to the correct treatment temperature, making the process simple, repeatable, and controlled.
One package contains four Transformer Blocks. Use a maximum of four blocks — one full package — per 480 g package of Rex hot wax.
Transformer Block is intended only for factory-new chains with original factory grease.
It is not a cleaner for used chains. Used, dirty, or previously lubricated chains must still be cleaned thoroughly and fully dried before hot waxing.
